Liberty Partnership Program

The Liberty Partnership Program is a collaboration between Hofstra University and South Side High School to support at-risk high school students in their academic, social, and emotional development. I facilitated group counseling for seventeen of these freshmen through the implementation of activities focusing on; study skills, promoting positive self esteem and encouraging goal directed behavior. My greatest impact from this group was the ability to match members of the community to act as positive role models for these students.

This document is an example of initial responses from one of my groups. I used this system to determine how I wanted to focus each group and understand who needed the most guidance.

Role Model/ Vision Boards Lesson

This lesson focused on the importance of role models and working towards goals decided on prior. As many of my students noted that they did not have someone to look up to; we discussed what a role model meant to each student and what qualities they sought to emulate in themselves. I then had them focus on their goal and design a vision board using stickers, markers and photos to motivate them to succeed. The vision boards covered the front of the students' journals which were used weekly to record their goal progress.
